Ipoh-based Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK) along with the Ipoh City Council carried out a commendable corporate social responsibility (CSR) project to aid residents in Waller Court in the heart of the city.

Some 237 residents there received essential food items such as rice, flour, sugar and other food items.

“Many of them were from the B40 group who have been impacted greatly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We hope that our assistance will to a certain extent alleviate their burden,” said Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian, chief executive officer of KLK.

He also added that they have also assisted some 10,000 residents in the Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah.

Also present was Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

KLK also presented food packets to some 125 needy students at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Mutiara, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Raya and Sekolah Kebangsaan Guru Kalgidar here.

They also worked with an NGO, Iman Ikatan Mabahhah Muslimin (IMAN) to send out 100 food packets to families in Chemor and Manjoi including old folks and orphans.

Rumaizi added that the joint charity project is the first goodwill project to benefit the needy with the plantation giant.

Ipoh Hyperlocal highly commends both parties for this timely programme.
