Mr Hiroyuki with Dato Rumaizi

Ipoh City had signed the “sister city” status with Fukuoka, Japan way back in 1989.

It has been 33 years since this understanding was reached to benefit both cities in the field of economy, culture, education, science and technology, trade, sports and health sectors.

At that time, Ipoh first mayor Dato’ Umar Abu signed the agreement with then Fukuoka mayor Keiichi Kuahara on March 21, 1989.

Yesterday, the current consul general of Japan, Mr. Orikasa Hiroyuki, made an official visit to Ipoh.
Ipoh Myor Dato Rumaizi Baharin was on hand to greet the VIP guest.

Mr Hiroyuki made a visit to the Japanese garden Dr Seenivasagam Park  and also planted a tree there.

The Japanese park was built in 1995 with plans provided by Fukuoka city.

It also houses the “Dry Garden of Fukuoka” among other attractions.

On a lighter not, it is noteworthy to know that Mr Hiroyuki is fluent in Bahasa Malaysia.
