The makers of the Kaya Boy brand of home-made kaya have now launched their latest product.

This time around is the “Sambal Udang” paste which can go with bread, biscuits, rice or even used in your cooking.

Be prepared to handle the spicy sambal as there is a lot of ” heat” in the sambal udang.

According to the creator of the dish, Damian Nagalingam, it is actually his grandmother’s recipe of more than 100 years.

“My mother who is 87-years-old learnt the recipe from her mother back then.

“It has elements of baba nyonya ingredients like dried prawns, lengkuas, serai, fresh red chillies, dried chillies, chilli padi, shallots, garlic, belachan, gula Melaka, salt / sugar for taste.

“The whole process of cutting and cleaning the various items takes me about four hours. Then, I start to fry the onions, garlic, lengkuas and serai.

“This is followed by adding in belachan then fried prawns and finally chillies and gula Melaka. which takes another takes another tow and a half hours,” said Damian.

The finished product is packed in 200 gramm bottles and is priced at RM18 each.

“We are getting orders from Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang. What more, there are repeat orders for the items,”added Damian.
