Touted as the first of its kind in Malaysia,  the “Multi Sensory & Motor Stimulation Facility & Virtual Forest” in Ipoh was launched to greatly benefit those with dementia.

The commendable corporate social responsibility (CSR) project was launched today (Saturday, June 19 2021) at the Bebelac Day Care Centre in Jalan Lang, Padang Tembak, Ipoh.

The project which was launched on an online virtual platform is the brainchild of the Rotary Club of Greentown in collaboration with The Dementia Society Perak.

The facility will go a long way to help those with the condition by offering benefit, support and holistic care therapy.

The project is made possible by a generous grant from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.

Other donors are the Rotary International District  3521, Taiwan, Rotary International District 3300, Malaysia, Rotary Club of Taipei Rui An, Rotary Club of Makati Edsa along with the Rotary Club of Greentown.

Organising chairman and Past Assistant Governor Francis Vijeyaselvan thanked the sponsors for their generosity and kind wishes in making the outdoor facility a success.

“The multisensory and motor stimulation outdoor facility caters for people with dementia with each stage of their ailment.

“Other than rendering holistic treatment, it provides therapies ranging from physical exercise to mental equilibrium,” said Francis.

Among them are the potting and planting activities that help regulate body movement and perpetuate muscle strength while stimulating and sensitising the five senses.

The fence encapsulated facility is an obstructruction free quasicular path designed to prevent digression, reduce confusion and curtail apprehension.

“The brightly coloured yellow grab rails purl the pathway providing safety along with garden chairs to offer rest when needed.

“There is also the hanging garden with creepers that produce fragrance emanating from flowers. The “Bamboo Grove” with audio visuals of rustling and rhythmic sway of the bamboo helps the stimulation of the sense of sight and sound,” added Rotary Club of Greentown president, Rita Olikh.

Other facilities at the garden include the water fountain with running water which helps readjusting mood and emotions.

Also, the potting beds and vegetable patches along with a Koi pond with live fish will help induce reverie along with a natural self and nature bonding experience.

Guest-of-honour was District Governor Teoh Kwan Swee along with representatives from Rotary Club of Taipei Rui An and Rotary Club of Makati Edsa.
