All eyes will be on the Malaysian team under new coach Sarjit Singh  competing in the 30th edition of the Sultan Azlan Cup at the Azlan Shah Stadium starting on Saturday.

For Sarjit who replaced Arul Selvaraj, it will be the first assignment.

It would  be interesting to see how the national team would fare in the tournament under a new coach.

The host nation would start their campaign against Pakistan in the competition which would end on May 11.

For Pakistan who lifted the trophy in 1999, 2000 and 2003 would want the team to do the talking on the field.

This is following the split of the Pakistan Hockey Federation into two factions, one headed by Tariq Bugti and the other by Shela Raza, who both conducted separate training camps.

After the intervention of the Federal Government and following trials,  a new team comprising players from both camps were announced.

Pakistan finished third in the last edition in 2022. Other teams participating are Japan, Korea and Canada.
