Members of the Ipoh City Council answered the call from Hospital Raja Perempuan Bainun for the shortage of blood at its blood bank recently.
Ipoh Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin said that volunteers came forward to donate blood to overcome the shortage.
He also urged Ipohites to volunteer towards the blood bank as reserves are running low.
“We organised a blood donation campaign with the assistance of the blood bank to shore up the reserves,” he said.
In the meantime, he also assured that the collection of rubbish around the city will be back to normal.
“We will utilise 10 new trucks which we had purchased for this purpose. We had some issues with the contractors who were running the operations. Many of their workers were down with Covid-19.
“They (contractors) will be given a penalty for their irresponsible action,” said Rumaizi.
In the meantime, DBI has rescheduled the collection timing for the various housing and commercial areas.
“We have also employed some 100 local workers for this purpose,” he added.
