Former Taiping Town Council president, Dato Abdul Rahim Md Ariff was called to the bar at the Ipoh High Court presided over by High Court judge Dato Abd Wahab Mohamed earlier today.
Dato Rahim had also served at the Ipoh City Council as its secretary.
He has his early education at the Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan di Tapah and later at Sekolah Menengah Anderson, Ipoh.
In 1983, he pursued his law (LLB) at University Malaya and continued his bachelor’s degree (LLM) at the University of Southampton in 1998.
He had also served at the Ipoh City Council for 35 years in various capacities, namely legal advisor (1998), council secretary (2006) until he was appointed as the president of the Taiping Town Council in 2014 till 2019 when he retired.
Under his leadership, the Taiping Town Council achieved several major recognition in the tourism and eco-tourism field.
Among the notable ones was the “Top 100 World Sustainable Destination Ranking 2019”.
Being an ardent sports fan, Rahim was the President of the Perak Hockey Association (PHA) for 16 years from 2002 till 2018.
He also held the post of vice-president Malaysia Hockey Confederation for 10 years from 2005 till 2015. Rahim also served on the executive board of the Asian Hockey Federation.
Another major highlights in his career in hockey was his role as the organizing chairman of the prestigious Sultan Azlan Shah Cup from 2007 till 2019.
The international tournament saw top teams from Germany, Australia, Holland, Britain, Argentina, Pakistan, India, Japan and others taking part.
After his retirement from the Taiping Town Council, Rahim was chambering with one of Ipoh’s renowned legal firms, Kean Chye & Sivalingam from July 2020.
