The largest lithium-Ion battery recycling plant, which is the first in the country, built by EcoNilLi Battery New Energy Sdn Bhd has been launched in Tasek Industrial Area here.
The event was officiated by Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar ibni Almarhum Raja Muda Musa.
The company’s CEO Datuk Jayden Goh in his address said:”the plant constructed at a cost of RM50 million is equipped with a Hydrometallurgical facility for the EcoNiLi Integrated Critical Metal Recovery.
“This is the largest battery treatment plant in Malaysia with an annual capacity of about 24,000 metric ton of used batteries.
“Using a sustainable and closed-loop battery recycling process to ensure environmental sustainability, we expect to produce about 12,000 tons of black mass which contains Lithium, Cobalt and Nickel, which are essential for the production of new batteries, “he added.
EcoNilLi plans to open a second plant in Gopeng when the first plant reaches the 100 percent capacity.
According to Goh the second plant will be the largest in the Asia Pacific region with a larger capacity.
This is to meet the domestic and global demand while further stimulating the recycling industry, especially in Perak, as a hub for the lithium-Ion battery recycling chain in Asia
“Our aim is to make Malaysia, especially Perak, a hub for battery recycling in Asia, while ensuring that environmental sustainability is maintained,” he added.
The global battery recycling market is valued at 9.2 billion USD in 2023 and is expected to grow further.
