In recognition of the contribution of organisers of pasar malam traders, a contest is being held by Ipoh City Council (MBI) to pick the best night market.

A briefing on.the matter was held recently attended by nine hawkers’ associations, six residents committee and three mosque and surau committees.

The briefing was officiated by the council’s Senior Director for Administration and Operations Abdul Halim Saad. Also present were City Health Director M.Raman and Director of Enforcement and Security Ahmad Zaiyadi Sudin .

The criteria and compliance on the contest were presented by the council’s Health Superintendent (hawkers) from the Environmental Health Department .

Joining them was Muhammad Aswad Abd Rashid from Green Energy Asia Biofuel Resources who is the council’s strategic partner on the circular economy initiative.

This is the first time such a competition is held to recognize the vital role played by pasar malam organisers, hawkers  and petty traders who generate the local economy.

Apart from providing an opportunity for them to display their creativity and quality of service.

It also helps to foster spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation and healthy competition among microeconomic players.

The competition is open to all organisers of pasar malam registered with the council.

It would also enhance strategic communications between the local authority and the local business community.
