Despite his never-say-die attitude, popular emcee, deejay and event planner Damian Nagalingam saw all of his engagements come to a shuttering end since Covid-19 hit us.
With the ever continuing lockdowns and MCO, there has been no form of revenue to maintain his staff, lorries and equipment.
Among the equipment in his store included lights, sound systems, stage materials, props and many more.
While many of these items went into his store room, he had to offload all of his lorries and keep only his car for his personal transport.
What is his new business one may ask ?
Keeping a positive mind, Damian started his Kaya Boy recipe to sell to friends and business contacts.
The kaya recipe is from his 90 years-old mother.
Within months, he embarked on his next project, the Sambal Udang recipe which also took off.
He travels the length and breath of the country from his base in Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur, Penang to deliver his products personally.
In between this, he also started delivering dragon fruits from a farm in Ipoh.
“The more products I carry, the more choices my friends and customers have to order from me,” he added.
Being business savvy, he also ventured in delivering durians from suppliers in Raub, Pahang.
He collects good quality durians and packs them into plastic containers for delivery.
“Although the profit margin is small considering the cost of transport, packing and time, I am happy to keep on going,” said Damian.
Recently, Damian was also interviewed on the Ipoh City Council radio channel to serve as a motivator and role model by another popular Ipoh emcee K T Pillai so that others can be follow suit during these trying times.
Despite his busy schedule, he still finds time on occasional Saturdays to spin his retro music with another Ipoh DJ Golden Munky on Youtube to “let off some steam”. They call themselves the Silver state deejays.
