In conjunction with the 35th Ipoh City Day celebrations, a fishing competition was held at Gunung Lang Recreational Park and also to promote the parks as well as other public parks in the city.
Ipoh is well endowed with lakes, ponds and rivers where much recreational fishing can be done.
It is also to encourage city residents to take part in leisure activities.
Some 200 anglers participated in the competition which offered a total prize money of RM15,000 based on the heaviest fish.
Council’s secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak officiated the event. Also present was Council’s Director of Landscape Meor Abdullah Zaidi.
Zaini Mohammad emerged winner to take home RM5,000 after he managed to catch a talapia weighing 0.460 kg.
Second prize went to Saiful Ridhzal Mohamed Salim whose catch of a talapia weighing 0.400 kg earned him RM2,000 while Muhamad Firdaus Abd Manap received RM1,500 after he fished out a 0.395 kg baung species.
Fourth and fifth placed competitors went home with RM1,000 and RM500.
Those finishing from sixth to 25th did not go home empty handed as they received fishing equipment and hampers.
Lucky anglers also collected 60 hampers in a lucky draw.
Councillor Datuk Ahmad Hariri Kamarudin who is also the Council’s Tourism Sub Committee chairman presented the prizes to the winners.
