The Consul-General of Japan in Penang Mr. Kawaguchi Yoshiyasu, paid a courtesy call on Ipoh City Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin earlier today.
They met at the Ipoh City Council ‘s office. Also present was Ipoh Council secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak during the meeting.
This is the first visit of the Consul-General to Ipoh since taking office.
The meeting will help to promote bilateral relationship between both parties especially since Ipoh and Fukuoka, Japan are twin cities.
The twin city status was signed on March 21, 1989.
The twin city status helps promote economy, commerce, science, technology, culture, sports and education, various programmes have been implemented such as the annual Asia Pacific Children Convention and Sister City Student Exchange.
