Incumbent, Dato Seri Saarani Mohamad will be the Menteri Besar of Perak again following the
agreement to form the new state government between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).
The proposal to nominate Saarani was accepted by Perak Sultan, Sultan Nazrin Shah earlier today.
He will be sworn-in at 5.30pm later today at Istana Iskandariah, Kuala Kangsar.
“Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional have submitted the names of 33 assemblymen who support the coalition to His Majesty the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
“In addition, Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad has been named as the sole candidate to fill the vacancy.
“Because of the understanding being reached by both political parties, and considering the importance of the state assembly to convene, DYMM Paduka Seri Sultan of Perak had agreed to hold the oath taking ceremony today,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini
In a related the development, the recent 15th General Election, Perikatan Nasional (PN) became the coalition with the largest majority by obtaining 26 state assembly seats while PH 24 and BN with nine seats.
Therefore, to form the Perak State Government, a coalition must have at least 30 seats out of the 59 contested seats.
