Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi “returned” to his alma mater Sekolah Izuddin Shah here on yesterday (Friday) where he was a Form Five student back in 1970.
With fond memories the Bagan Datuk MP came back to break fast with some 1,500 people including orphans, tahfiz students, asnaf (zakat recipients) and local residents.
Ahmad Zahid who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister presented “duit raya” and food baskets to 140 orphans and tahfiz students.
The event was organised under the “Santunan Kasih Ramadan” by the Rural and Regional Development ministry.
The school is the seventh location of 13 states under the programme. The event kicked off at Batu 8 mosque in Gombak on March 24.
In his speech, he recalled how teachers with Form Five qualification had to teach students in an environment which lacked everything.
Despite the shortcomings, the teachers and school produced several well known personalities.
Ahmad Zahid also brought cheers to the school management when he announced a RM1 million allocation for upgrading works.
