Ipoh City Council has banned traders from selling firecrackers and fireworks at Ramadan bazaars to ensure the safety of the public and traders.
Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @Md Daud said:”However such items could be sold 25 meter radius away from the bazaars.
“They must obtain temporary licences from the council and permits from police .
“It is hoped that this year’s Ramadan bazaars will operate in a smooth and safe environment,”he said in his speech at the council’s full board meeting on January 24.
Meanwhile, the council has approved a total of 1,530 Ramadan bazaars in 23 locations which is an increase of 220 lots from last year.
Rumaizi said among them are additional lots located in Taman Kinding Raya and Seri Desa Tanah Hitam.
The organiser is allowed to charge a maximum of RM750 per lot to traders which covers tent rental and cleaning services
Another RM80 would be charged for licensing and services.
To ensure transparency,the council’s Integrity Unit and Environmental Health Department would oversee the selection process of the lots.
Rumaizi also noted the public are encouraged to bring their food containers.
He also advised traders to utilise biodegradable food packets and also participate in the used cooking oil program to produce biofuel.
