Having spent most of her career in the hospitality industry, Ipoh-based Shelina Fernandez had to make a drastic career change due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
She had worked in several hotels in the front office department in several hotels in Ipoh. Shelina also worked in Pangkor Island for a short while.
Now however, she is an entrepreneur who makes neem soap, lavender & sandalwood soap, charcoal and tea tree soap, charcoal sugar face scrub, body scrub, body lotion and clay face mask.
“Most of my ingredients include natural ingredients like neem, turmeric, charcoal, essential oils etc.
“These products make the skin glow, moisturize and eventually bringing a calm and relaxing feeling.
“They are also good for treating skin problems such as acne and pimples,” said Shelina to Ipoh Hyperlocal.
The products are priced reasonably from RM10 and above.
Although most of the customers are from Ipoh, there are some from as far as the Philippines and Kuwait who are my friends residing there.
She added that she started exploring making these products and through trial and error and in the process perfected her products.
“As a housewife with kids, I had to come out of the comfort zone to survive and make ends meet.
“I managed to equip myself with knowledge from YouTube, Google and other media platforms.
“Although response has been slow, I have not made any big publicity on the social media,” adds Shelina.
Those who support her products came to know through word of mouth, so as for now, it is family and friends.
“I also give out free samples through friends and contacts so that they can try them out,” she says.
She also assures that her products contain no chemicals and are homemade.
