In an effort to create a clean and smart city, the Ipoh City Council has closed down six illegal rubbish dumping locations out of 120 sites detected from January to September this year.
The closure of the dumping grounds is significant to achieve the objective of the council which had carried out various programmes to tackle illegal dumping of garbage.
The council’s Secretary, Ahmad Munir Ishak officiated a major gotong royong event, “Fight Against Illegal Dumping: Clean and Healthy Perak, Healthy Perak” at Jalan Harilela 1A, Taman Sri Rapat recently.
Also present was councillor Zuraidah Zakaria and Gopeng MP Tan Kar Hing and council’s senior directors and heads of departments.
This is part of the Local Agenda 21 initiative to foster partnerships among the local authorities, community and the private sector.
Getting rid of illegal dumping grounds and to maintain cleanliness is also on the Agenda of Perak Clean and Healthy 2024.
To prevent tge members of the public from dumping rubbish illegally, the council had distributed 136,392 free rubbish bins to residents weekly based on the councillors zones since 2021 to September this year.
A total of 2,015 “No Dumping” signboards had also been placed at several hotspots from 2021 to last month.
The community needs to play its role to keep the city clean and healthy.
