The 50 year-old Pasar Pinji market in Ipoh has received an allocation of RM16 million from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.

Its minister, YB Nga Kor Ming made a site visit recently to survey the area.

“The new lease of life for the market will bring new and added modern features to the market.

“Among them are elements of green practices, facilities for disabled people and ample parking areas. Other work involves the setting up of 214 units of lots for traders, 84 parking lots including for those disabled and lots for motorbikes and lorries too,” he said adding that there will be water and energy saving elements.

The new site will also be a people friendly area to visit and offer a new and breezy atmosphere.

Work by contractors had started in November last year and is expected to be completed in 24 month which will be November 2026.

A temporary site will be set up on the nearby land area owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).

Setting up cost for the temporary site is borne by the ministry to the tune of RM1 million and the  Ipoh City Council which had contributed RM540,000 for the overall work costing RM1.54 million. 

The minister also visited the Canning Garden market and announced an allocation of RM500,000 for its upgrading work.

Among the new upgrades include upgrades for the roller shutters, grilles, painting and electrical work, fencing, landscape work among others.

The new-look market in Canning Garden will give a boost to the residents living in the area and better quality of life for the folks.

Also present during the site visit was Ipoh Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin and his team.
