The Waller Court flats being the oldest in the heart of the city was spruced up with a community gotong royong recently. 

It was officiated by Ipoh City Council’s Chief Whip Wong Kar Keat who represented the Mayor. 

The gotong royong was carried out in  line with the Merdeka Day celebrations to strengthen the community and interactions among the residents and also practice tolerance. 

It is hoped the residents would involve in community activities as seen in kampungs where villagers still continue to get together at community programmes. 

During the gotong royong, residents also had the opportunity to watch demonstrations by Fire and Rescue Department personnel and an exhibition by Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital. 

Meanwhile, from January 2024 to July 31, a total of 40 gotong royong were held in the city. 

The council also identified 2,853 illegal dumping sites of which 1,522.08 tonnes of garbage was cleared in 2,689 operations. 

A total of 862 compounds totalling RM229, 900 were issued for illegal dumping of rubbish. 

The gotong royong will be continued to be organized to educate the public on the importance of cleanliness and set an example to others as well as a practice and culture of the city residents.
