The Governor for West New Britain of Papua New Guinea, (PNG) Sashindran Muthuvel visited Ipoh on Saturday and Sunday to foster cordial relationships. 

It is a province known for its natural beauty, volcanic landscape, diverse ecosystem and natural scenery 

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M. Kulasegaran had a courtesy  meeting with him. 

Discussions centred on the relationship between Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. 

The visit by the Governor will provide the province with some opportunities and establishment of ties in the field of business, culture and education in Perak. 

Later Sashindran attended the annual Deepavali Festival celebrations at AEON Ipoh Klebang organised by Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Makmur Negeri Perak. 

In his speech he praised Malaysians and the Government which  recognised all festivals and celebrations held in a harmonious environment to understand cultures and traditions of different races. 

Organising chairman K. Nachemutu said Ipoh is proud that a Governor from PNG visiting Ipoh will indirectly promote the city in the international arena. 

Also present were PNG’s High Commissioner – Jimmy Ure Ovia, Ipoh City Council councilor Faidz Ismail and soccer legend Datuk M. Karathu.
