It was another feather in the cap for Ipoh City Council after it’s Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud when he was selected as one of the four panelists at the 28th meeting of the Conference Of The Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention Climate Change (UNFCCC) at Malaysia Pavilion, Expo City Dubai, UAE on Dec 8.

Others are Co-Lead Local to 2030 Islands Network, Celetse Connors, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu and New York City Mayor Eric L. Adams.

The forum is entitled “Inclusive Climate Action:Cities Race to Zero” (Net Zero Commitments). 

The moderator is chief executive officer of Urbanice Malaysia, Norliza Hashim. 

Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming who represented Malaysia delivered his address at the conference. 

The annual conference attended by some 200 countries’ representatives including leaders from business and finance sectors, and those from the civil society is being held from November 30 to December 12.

It is the only multilateral decision – making a forum on climate change with almost complete membership of every country in the world.

COP is where the world comes together to agree on ways to address the climate change crisis such as limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degree Celsius, helping to vulnerable communities to adapt to the effects of climate change and achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
