Ipoh City and the City of Lianyungang in China signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to establish friendship city status between the two parties.
This is following the visit of the Mayor of the Lianyungang, Xing Zhengjun and his delegation to Ipoh recently.
On hand to welcome him was Ipoh Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin and his team.
The initiative is expected to bring mutual benefit to both cities in terms of economy, culture, business, tourism and also education.
Representatives from the state Economic Planning Unit, Tourism Perak, Perak Invest, and the Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce were also present.
It is also hoped that the LOI will also result in creating job opportunities, and promote sports, science and technology.
Ipoh City also has similar understandings with Fukuoka, Japan.
