Ipoh City climbed the ladder of ratings at an international forum, the latest being selected as the 22 city out 55 in South East Asia, as well as 465 out of 1,000 in the world as the greatest city listed by Global Oxford Economics 2024 Index.

Ipoh has won and selected for several awards and honours locally and globally in the past. 

The town built by tin was picked after evaluation among 12 cities in Malaysia. 

Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud made the announcement in his speech at the Ipoh City Council’s full board meeting on May 31.

Kuala Lumpur was adjudged as the second greatest city in South East Asia after Singapore. 

Bangkok was listed in 192 positions, Manila (256) and Jakarta occupied 284 places. 

The Global Index covered 1,000 big cities in 163 countries. 

It includes five categories among them economy, human capital, environment, good governance and quality of life.
