Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud who has been instrumental in promoting the city at the national and International forums was honoured with a special award at the council’s Media Awards Night at Ipoh Convention Centre here recently.

The gathering was jointly organised for the first time by the council and Puncak Emas Infra Sdn Bhd.

The award was presented by the company’s general manager, Ir Saiful Azzuan Aznam to the mayor. 

The award is among eight others given to media representatives in appreciation of their services in disseminating information and bringing  up issues for the council to act swiftly.

Heading the list were three employees of RTM who won their respective categories. 

Norain Abu Bakar grabbed two awards, Best TV Report entitled “MBI Recycle Used Cooking Oil” and Best Journalist award. 

Another RTM employee, Mohd Ariff Kamalzee Harun was the winner in the Best Videographer category entitled “Smart, Traffic”  ,while the Best Special  Television Report award on “Dogs in distress” went to Amirul Ashraff Zainon. 

The National News Agency’s two staff also went away with awards for their excellent work. 

Best Features category award was won by Mohamad Harith Mohamad Nizar in his report entitled “Heroes behind the cleanliness of the City” and Best Cameraman award was given to Mohd Zulfadhli Zulkarn’ain. 

Saifullah Ahmad of Sinar Harian picked up the Best News Report award for his article ” Ipoh  model for doughnut economy”. 

The council’s Puteri Nor Farah Azwani Muhamad Rali was adjudged the Best DJ on MBI Radio and the Best MBI TV Presenter award was picked by Akhbar Ghazali Yang Ghazali. 

Some 80 media practitioners attended the dinner with Gema Warisan Budaya MBI and Hard Rock Cafe Ipoh artistes entertaining the crowd. 

Present were councillors, council’s senior directors and other heads of departments. 

Also in attendance was the president of Persatuan Pengamal Media Perak, Sayed Mohd Hesham Syed Idris and President of Kelab Sukan dan Kebajikan Media Perak, Rosli Mansor. 

It is hoped that the event will foster a stronger relationship with the media and also appreciate their efforts and role in developing the city.
