Ipoh City played host for the ASEAN-China Ministerial Roundtable on Construction and Housing (ACMROCH) 2026 Gala Dinner
The city of Ipoh once again captured international attention after being selected as the venue for the Gala Dinner held in conjunction with the ASEAN-China Ministerial Roundtable on Construction and Housing (ACMROCH) 2026, which took place this evening at the Grand Ballroom, Ipoh Convention Centre.
The prestigious event was officiated by the Minister of Housing and Local Government, YB Nga Kor Ming, and attended by ministers, deputy ministers, and senior government officials from ASEAN Member States and the People’s Republic of China.
Also in attendance were the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn; YB Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, Chairman of the Perak State Housing and Local Government Committee; Tuan Zamakhshari Hanipah, Mayor of Ipoh; as well as delegations from ASEAN Member States and the People’s Republic of China.
The hosting of this Gala Dinner represents a significant recognition of the Perak State Government and the Ipoh City Council (MBI) for their capability in organising prestigious international events. The occasion not only showcased excellent event management and warm hospitality but also celebrated the richness of the state’s cultural heritage and local traditions for the visiting delegates.
In his speech, Nga expressed his appreciation to MBI and the Perak State Government for successfully organising an event that highlighted local gastronomy, cultural performances, and the warm hospitality of the Malaysian people.
“Tonight’s event is more than just an official function. It serves as an important platform to strengthen relationships, mutual understanding, trust, and friendship between the ASEAN Member States and the People’s Republic of China.
“The selection of Ipoh as the host city also adds international value and publicity to the city as a world-class destination for tourism, heritage, gastronomy, and conferences. Its stunning limestone hills, rich tin mining history, heritage buildings, and unique local cuisine give Ipoh a distinctive identity.” he said.
Delegates also had the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of traditional Perak delicacies, including the city’s renowned Ipoh white coffee, one of its iconic culinary specialties. They were also encouraged to explore Ipoh’s heritage precincts, historical landmarks, and the many attractive tourist destinations throughout Ipoh and the state of Perak.
The organisation of ACMROCH 2026 also reflects the Ministry of Housing and Local Government’s (KPKT) commitment to strengthening regional cooperation in urban development, housing, construction, and sustainable, liveable local governance. The close collaboration between KPKT, the Perak State Government, and MBI in making this programme a success demonstrates the strategic role of local authorities in supporting international and diplomatic events.
The event also serves as a platform to promote Ipoh and the state of Perak in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026, creating greater opportunities for the tourism, hospitality, food, cultural, and local economic sectors to grow.
