A total of 2,000 city residents participated in the  Low Carbon Program, the 78th in the series, with Hari Raya Celebrations theme together with “War on Sugar 5km Fun Run” organised by  Perak State Health Department and Ipoh City Council here on April 27.

Some 1,000 took part in the run flagged off by the department’s Deputy Director (medical) Dr Roniyuzam Abd Malek and the Council’s Senior Director of Technical A’zman Mohd Harun.

The event is an initiative to enhance public awareness on physical activities in preventing Non- Communicable Diseases (NCD) like obesity, diabetes and heart ailments.

It is also to encourage the community to practice a healthy living style and at the same time support the campaign on “War on Sugar” with the theme “Have A Good Time! Be Active” which stresses the importance of fun in physical activities.

The program reflects the continued commitment by the department to have  people in the state who are healthy, active and knowledgeable.

The department intends to extend the program to other districts with the cooperation of agencies and the involvement of the community as a whole.

The Low Carbon Day included various activities like senamrobik, health exhibition, fitness screening and free dental check up.

It is hoped the event would assist the council to achieve the vision of Ipoh  as a Smart and Prosperous City.
