A total of 20 locations around Ipoh City will be equipped with free Wi-Fi by the Ipoh City Council.
“The network which appears as “MBIFREEWIFI” will assist children in their learning.
“This is also in line with the “Cikgu Saarani Tuition Programme” launched earlier,” said Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.
Among the areas connected with the service are Kampung Manjoi, Children’s Playground, Medan Kidd Bus Station, Kinta Riverwalk, Kampung Sri Kinta (near Pasir Puteh), Bercham and Menglembu.
During the launch ceremony, 10 tablets were also presented by the council to students from families under the B40 category.
“The installations at all 20 locations are expected to be completed by the end of April this year,” said Rumaizi adding that around RM200,000 was utilised by MBI for installations of Wi-Fi network infrastructure, with future monthly billings of around RM50,000.
He also welcomed corporate partners to work with the Ipoh City Council so that the city will soon become a Smart City on par with other states.
