After more than a century since its construction, the iconic Birch Memorial Clock Tower in the heart of the “Town That Tin Built” is brimming with colour and glory.
It is set to last another century.
The commitment was given by the Ipoh City Council to ensure the wellbeing of the clock tower which was built in 1909.
The tower was refurbished so as to maintain its attraction for visitors and tourists.
The tower was built to mark the death of the first Resident of Perak JWW Birch who was killed in Pasir Salak in 1875.
“The clock tower was officiated by the eighth Resident of Perak, Sir Ernest Woodford Birch.
“Careful maintenance is carried out so that the clock tower is in tip-top shape. We spend around RM49,900 a year for maintenance works,” said a spokesman for the Ipoh City Council.
The next time you can go to Ipoh City after the MCO, make it a point to visit this memorable clock tower.
