Visitors are encouraged to bring their own containers to buy their food at Ramadan bazaars.

The Ipoh City Council has given licences for 1,408 lots in 21 locations in various places in the city.

Approval was given to 14 organisations to manage the bazaars.

This year’s Bazaar Ramadan concept is Circular Economy activities which involves reusing, returning and re-creating re-sources instead of buying, using and throwing them away.

Perak Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching said:”it is a way of the campaign to request the public to use their own containers.”

She officiated the Bazaar Ramadan at Indera Mulia Stadium compound and  distributed tiffin carriers to 100 visitors on March 4.

Traders also received aprons and caps. A total of 200 lots had been allocated to the traders.

Also present were Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud,Council Secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak, councillors and heads of departments.

Collection of used cooking oil is also carried out at all the bazaars to produce “Biofuel” by Council’s strategic partner Green Energy Asia Biofuel Resources Sdn Bhd .

Ng noted that 10 organisers of the bazaar had taken the initiative to supply rubbish bins, thick garbage plastic bags with cable ties to ensure proper collection of rubbish and keep the environment clean.

A total of 600 traders had received them. She also pointed out one trader had the licence withdrawn after the person  was found to have sold the licence to a third party.
