Jelapang Rukun Tetangga with the cooperation of Jelapang Sports and Recreation Club, Dewi Sri Moogambighai and Sri Maha Mariamman Temples, Jelapang organised a Pongal Festival at Dewi Sri Moogambighai Temple, Jelapang Tambahan on Sunday, January 19. 

Some 120 people participated in the event officiated by Danny Ooi, Special Officer to Batu Gajah MP. 

It was also attended by Assistant Officer in charge of Jelapang Police Sergeant Major Ahmad Zamani. 

Apart from cooking Pongal in 11 pots various activities were also held. Traditional games were also competed.

Pongal is a Hindu harvest festival celebrated to thank the Sun, Mother Nature and various farm animals that help to contribute to a bountiful harvest. 

The activities included kolam competition, tying of jasmine flowers and coconut tree leaves, knitting and traditional music performance. 

A best dressed attire and musical chair competition were also held during the event.
