For the very first time, members of the Malaysian Association of Hotels Kedah / Perlis Chapter made a courtesy call on Ipoh Mayor, Dato Rumaizi Baharin at his office.
The four-man delegation was led by their chairman Eugene Dass accompanied by Aariana Hospitality International president and chief executive officer Reginald T Pereira, general manager of Resort World Langkawi, Ishak Yunus and general manager of Park Avenue Hotel, Sungai Petani, Azmi Rahman.
Also present was MAH Perak chapter chairman and the general manager of the Sunway Lost World of Tambun, Nurul Nuzairi.
The discussion which lasted an hour with matters of cross selling and packages discussed for the mutual benefit of both parties.
Dato Rumaizi highlighted that Ipoh was a tin mining town and holds interesting limestone caves, mountains and other attractions.
“We have to change Ipoh’s position and focus on tourism to diversify our activities. As such we need to form alliances with parties like MAH Kedah / Perlis to further enhance our economy and activities,” said Rumaizi.
He further emphasised on the need to carry out more promotions to attract visitors to the city.
Meanwhile, Eugene concorred with the mayor and offered areas for joint collaborations.
“We can look at strategic alliances to cross sell our products and destinations for the mutual benefit of both parties,” he added.
Assisting to coordinate the session was Destination Perak represented by their head, Hardeep Kaur and team.
The meeting was followed by another dialogue session with Perak’s tourism stakeholders to further explore opportunities.
