The Perak National Chinese Orchestra Festival 2024 achieved the Malaysian Book of Records (MBOR) for the “Most Orchestra Performers in a Christmas Festival” in the country in front of the Town Hall here recently.
MBOR representative Megat Faris Hussein Megat Muzaffar Shah presented the recognition certificate to Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud.
A total of 202 participants took part in the performance who used flutes, drums and gongs and other musical instruments to captivate the crowd.
Among those who attended the function were Menglembu Assemblyman Steven Chaw Kam Foon, Ipoh City Council councillors and the organising committee.
The event was organised by Ipoh Chinese Cultural and Orchestra Organisation with the support of the city council.
Rumaizi in his speech said the event is in line with recognition of Ipoh as the City of Music by UNESCO.
“The council encourages residents, especially the younger generation to organise such performances and to introduce and promote the culture of musical arts to international friends through social media,”he added.
Rumaizi noted the performance held for the first time was much awaited by Ipoh residents.
“The recognition by MBOR will assist the city in promoting the tourism sector and develop the local economy,”he added.
Such events will also encourage youngsters to participate in healthy activities.
The mayor suggested more organisations come forward to organise similar events to attract tourists to the city and also promote culture and art to be known on the international stage.
