For 100 people Malaysia Day celebrations had brought relief to them as they received food packets donated by an NGO here recently.
Some Orang Asli families also turned up at the event in Little India.
The Malaysia Day Compassionate Programme event was organised by Ipoh City Watch in collaboration with the office of Ipoh Barat MP and Lions Club of Perak Silver State.(LCPSS)
The senior citizens and B40 group were invited to join in the celebration by singing patriotic songs while flying the Jalur Gemilang.
They were treated to lunch and also presented with some dry food packets to reduce the burden of rising cost of living.
Ipoh Barat MP M.Kulasegaran,Ipoh City Watch Chairman Prof Dr Richard Ng and LCPSS members were present. They also distributed Jalur Gemilang to customers and shopkeepers located nearby
Kulasegaran apart from handing out the food packets, Kulasegaran also presented a laptop to a student, Khairunnisa Kharimah, from UKM majoring in medicine.
Administration Executive Liana Pandak of Persatuan Orang Asli Perak received a cheque. They were contributed by the office of Ipoh Barat MP.
According to Ng they have been organising such events at every occasion including the festive season.
“We will carry out a similar programme in conjunction with Deepavali celebrations. Every event carries a message to the people. This is due to a stable government which always provides various assistance to the rakyat to ease their burden,” added. Kula.
