In a commendable recycling initiative, the Ipoh City Council managed to collect a whopping 1.5 tons of electronic waste recently.
This is the first time the council is organising such an initiative and will surely go a long way to safeguard Mother Earth.
The council had set up five locations namely at Bercham, Jelapang, Pasir Pinji, Rapat Setia and Manjoi for residents to send their unwanted electronic goods.
Among them were laptops, fans, refrigerators, washing machines, handphones, air-conditioners, kettles, rice cookers and other equipment.
For those who cannot send their equipment, the council has also arranged a contractor to ferry the goods to these collection centres.
Judging from the response, the programme was a runaway success as it will minimize the number of electronic waste being simply discarded in open areas.
Meanwhile, collection times are from 8am to 1pm every Saturday and Sundays on the third week of every month.
The programme will go on till the end of November 2022., Participants in the project also stand to win a prize worth RM10,000 in a grand lucky draw.
