In appreciating the commitment and dedication of the pensioners, Ipoh City Council honoured them at the Jasamu Dikenang 2023 event with a hi tea at a hotel here this evening. (Aug 7) 

A total of 127 pensioners attended the function out of which 92 of them left the service on attaining the mandatory retirement age, 23 went on optional retirement, one retired due to health issues and 11 passed away. 

Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud presented the pensioners with appreciation certificates and gold coins worth RM425 and souvenirs. 

They have been serving between 19  and 41 years in the council’s administration before they call it a day in 2023.

In his address, the mayor commended the pensioners who were part of the council’s administration which managed to achieve five star status and one of the best local authorities in the country. 

“Without your hard work and commitment we could not have reached the top,” be told the pensioners present. 

Rumaizi stressed the present staff should follow the retirees example and commitment in their long years of service. 

Rumaizi at a press conference later said,” the council had sought the expertise of former employees in the past in helping out in certain aspects of administration. 

“We have already re employed a former staff on contract basis to assist in the administration, “he added. 

Meanwhile a representative of the retirees, Faridah Sulaiman in her speech thanked the Mayor and council for hosting the event in recognising the services of the pensioners. 

“Although our role in the administration is small, we are thankful that the council has emerged as one of the best local authorities in the country with five star status. 

“Despite being retired, our hearts and minds are still with the council and are ready to contribute to the development of the city,” she added. 

The council’s Kumpulan Gema Warisan Budaya entertained the guests.
