Media practitioners in Perak received a boost when Communication and Digital Minister Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil announced a RM10,000 allocation to Persatuan Pengamal Media Perak (Perak Media Practitioners Association) recently.
The fund will enable the association to upgrade their facilities at their clubhouse as well as carry out their activities.
The minister made the announcement after visiting the association’s media house here on May 28.
The media house would be a place to gather and a centre of activities for the media fraternity.
Also present were the Ministry’s Deputy Minister Teo Nie Chong and Perak Communications, Multimedia, NGO Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi and Association President Sayed Hesham Syed Idris.
Various issues and problems were brought up during the dialogue session with journalists at Media House.
He has promised to look into the matter and the next course of action to be taken.
The Minister’s visit was in conjunction with National Journalists Day celebrations (HAWANA) held here with the theme “Free Media, Pillar of Democracy” from May 27 to 29.
HAWANA attracted some 1,000 media practitioners including from several Asean countries.
The celebration was held to appreciate the contributions and services of the media fraternity in the development of the country.
Several programmes and recreational activities were organised including a forum with six panellists
HAWANA was hosted by the ministry and implemented by BERNAMA.
The celebration was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on May 28.
Media practitioners were also feted to a dinner with Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at Istana Iskandariah on May 27.
May 29 had been gazetted as National Journalists Day.
