The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) brought cheers and relief to 12 students pursuing various courses in universities as they received financial aid in the form of grants and loans totalling RM436,000 recently.
The aid of between RM10, 000 and RM100,000 from the education arm of the party MIED was distributed to the students in 10 parliament constituencies, Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur, Tambun, Bagan Datoh, Teluk Intan, Batu Gajah, Sungai Siput, Kuala Kangsar, Bukit Gantang and Taiping.
Perak MIC Chairman Tan Sri M. Ramasamy said,” the aid is part of the party’s Jelajah Pendidikan programme to assist the students and it will continue every month.
“The students are from the B40 group and we had scrutinised them so that they are qualified to receive the aid,” he added.
The students are pursuing various courses including degree, bachelor’s degree, diploma, masters and PhD.
Meanwhile, Ramasamy who is also MIC Vice President said the state party officials visited SKJ (T) Ladang Ayer Tawar which was destroyed by fire.
“We are looking into aid to assist the school,” he added.
The party also distributed food boxes and cash aid to those affected by floods in Beruas.
