In honour of former teacher and educator, Dato Seri Dr N S Selvamany, a road has been named after him in Ipoh.
The newly named road is located off Jalan Sultan Nazrin Shah in the city.
The former teacher at SM Anderson was a popular figure among the students and also the local community here.
He began his teaching career in 1952 after having studied at the Raffles College, Singapore majoring in Economics.
HIs career started at the Anderson School, Ipoh. He taught for more than 20 years at Anderson and as a pioneer, he had produced many prominent students. Dato’ Seri N.S. Selvamany passed away in 2019.
His closest niece R. Nirmaladevi who is residing in Kuala Lumpur said that it is good news for the family and friends to hear about this wonderful development.
“Personally, it is a real honour for me to hear of this as I was close to him. He was also so fond of his gardening and always keeping busy with his work and with his friends,” she added.
The move is a timely and commendable gesture by the Ipoh City Council.
Due credit should go to St. Philomena Education Foundation who had proposed the move. The foundation’ secretary K Nachemuthu and city councillor S. Jayagobi had played a vital role in getting the road named after the late teacher.
Meanwhile, Nachemutu thanked Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin and the city councillors for making the naming of the road possible.
