Some 5,000 residents enjoyed a decent meal in the form of  nasi briyani  ayam to “break fast” distributed by Persatuan India Muslim Perak (PRIM) at Masjid Sultan Idris Shah II (State Mosque) here on March 16.

The crowd started to come in as early as 3pm although the distribution was supposed to start at 4pm to 6pm to get the free food at the compound of the mosque .

The event was carried out with the cooperation of the mosque management.

Also present were Perak Islamic Religious Department Deputy Director Zakaria Abd Razak, mosque officials and association members.

Association Chairman Mohamed Arib Aliah said: ” last year we prepared 7,000 packets, however this year it was 5,000.

“The cost of the  extra 2,000 packets, we converted into distributing cooking items to the poor.

“It was a good turnout even non Muslims turned up to receive the food packets.

“We are not looking at racial background as food is for everybody. We noticed quite a number of them but all are welcome,” he added.

This is the eighth year the association has been giving out nasi briyani during the month of Ramadan.

He also thanked all those who had supported the distribution of the food packets.

The association had been helping poor families with financial support and cooking items.
