The tourism island of Langkawi may open on September 16 but in Perak, there are no plans to open Pangkor to visitors anytime soon.

Although 100% of the population has been vaccinated, the authorities not not rushing to open it for visitors.

In making the announcement, Perak State Exco for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi said the matter was decided in the committee meeting with Menteri Besar Dato’ Saarani Mohamad yesterday.

“Pangkor Island has yet to achieve herd immunity and at the latest we expect this to be achieved by the end of September,” said Dato Nolee.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture had announced that Pangkor Island was selected as a COVID-19-free destination for the second phase of the National Recovery Plan.
