A total of 16 boys teams from SJK (T) and six from SJK (T) girls schools participated in the nine-a-side soccer competition for Tamil schools in Kinta Utara to vie for the Piala Ahli Parlimen Tambun at Ipoh Padang today. (Sept 7)

The tournament was organised by Persatuan Kebajikan Sehati Warga Perak.

SJK (T) Klebang “B” took the boys title by defeating SJK (T) Chettiars 3-1 and took home RM750 in the final. The runners-up received RM500.

SJK (T) Kerajaan captured third place after they edged SJK (T)  Desa Pinji 2-1. The team also received RM250.

In the girls category, SJK(T) Methodist emerged the winner after they narrowly defeated SJK (T) Klebang 3-2. The team was awarded RM500.

The losing finalist received RM300. The players also received medals. 

Present were  Perak CPO Datuk Pahlawan Azizi Mat Aris, association chairman M. Vijaya Kumar, secretary Stanley Nelson, Pegawai Khas Kanan Ahli Parlimen Tambun R. Suresh Kumar and Perak Indian Football Association President Datuk Amaluddin Mohd Ismail. 

Meanwhile Suresh Kumar said:”Next year the tournament will be expanded to be hosted at the State level. 

“It was encouraging to see many good teams participating, in fact some schools sent more than one team,” he added.
