Sports activities and competitions will help boost the tourism sector by generating revenue for stakeholders like hotels and tourist spots operators. 

Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud in his officiating speech of the Perak Tourism International Invitation Taekwondo Championship at Arena Badminton here today said:”” this international  competition will  boost the Visit Perak Year events. 

“Ipoh City Council will always encourage  sports associations and NGOs to host international events by utilising the existing facilities to make Ipoh a Sports City. 

“Sports will not only create a healthy living style but also practice discipline and respect each other,”he added. 

Rumaizi also commended Perak Taekwondo Association for unearthing talents who went on to perform creditability at  international competitions and indirectly promoted the country and Ipoh City at the world map. 

Perak Tourism Association (PTA) President Datuk Mohd Odzman Abdul Kadir in his address said:”by hosting the international tournament we are supporting the efforts by the Government to promote Visit Perak Year 2024  through Tourism Perak. 

“Through the competition we expect a substantial boost to our local economy.. tourism revenues will increase,”he added. 

Mohd Odzman also praised the media for their continuous support for all the association events as well other events. 

“The role of media is of utmost importance not only to update us on the happenings but also to encourage people towards healthy living which aligns with the Ipoh City Mayor’s vision of a Sports City and can attract tourists interested in wellness activities,” he added. 

A total of 1,300 exponents from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Moldova, Norway, Nepal, Indonesia, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong are taking part in the tournament from June 21 to 23.
