It was a memorable get together for former hockey legends and officials who could have lost touch with their friends after their playing days when they attended Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy’s Hari Raya celebration at the Perak Royal Golf Club (RPGC) here on Monday.

While reminiscing the good old days along with savouring the various delicacies, the heroes of yesteryears were also honoured and were presented with souvenirs.

Among them Olympian Datuk R. Yogeswaran, his colleagues former captain Datuk Poon Fook Loke and  former international keeper Ahmad Fadzil Zainal Abidin.

Also present were academy chairman Datuk Abd Rahim Md Ariff, trustee Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin and Dato’ Pengelola Bijaya Diraja DYMM Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Darul Ridzuan, Toh Raja Diraja Kolonel (bersara) Dato’ Abd Rahim Mohamad Nor and academy secretary, M. Selvakumar.

Souvenirs were also given out to sponsors and supporters. A cake cutting ceremony was also held in conjunction with Mothers Day. 

The academy set up in 2011 is aimed at to train and develop coaches, umpires, technical officials, administrators and managers. 

Also present was Nur Ameer Muqsiq, 19, who will represent the country at the Special Olympics World Games In Berlin, Germany from June 17 to 25.

The teenager who suffers from intellectual disability will compete in the 100 metres, 4×100 relay event and long jump. 

He was selected after winning the 100 metres and long jump events at the Special Olympics Malaysia Games in Malacca last August.
