Ipoh City Mayor at the launch of “No Plastic Bags” campaign
By V. Sivaji
The Ipoh City Council is intensifying its efforts to discourage the use of plastic bags.
A charge of RM0.20 will be implemented at all business premises and food and beverage outlets on every Saturday.
Among the 1,378 business premises involved are supermarkets, F&B outlets, convenience stores, petrol stations, pharmacies among others.
The commendable initiative will surely go a long way to safeguard the environment and Mother Earth.
Ipoh City Council Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin launched the campaign at the Ipoh Car Free day programme earlier this morning.
The programme will also support the federal government’s plan of “Zero Single Use Plastic 2018-2030” initiatives.
Proceeds from the new levy will be for tree planting campaigns, awareness campaigns, school campaigns and awareness programmes.
Ipoh Hyperlocal congratulates the Ipoh City Council for this innovative and “out of the box” initiative to safeguard Mother Earth.
