Despite being one nil down, the Malaysian team turned the tables on South Africa to win by a big score of 7-2 at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup. The scoreline is also the biggest of the tournament this year.
The match was postponed from Friday due to the heavy downpour.
In keeping with yesterday’s momentum, they scored the equaliser through Razie Rahim.
And again received a penalty to go 2-1, 3-1 and 4-1 up in quick succession by Abu Kamal Azrai scoring two goals going into the halftime interval.
The game was again disrupted due to heavy downpour and restarted at around 7pm.
South Africa pulled a goal back but Malaysia scored another goal by Shello Silverius to make the score 5-2.
Goal no 6 was scored by team captain Najmi Jazlan through a penalty corner and goal no 7 came through Razie Rahim respectively
Razie was also named as the Man of the Match.
“Nice to see the energy and high score. We learnt to control the game and finish off the game. It does not penalty corner or field goal, goal is a goal,” said Anthoni Arul, the Malaysian team coach.
Now, Malaysia has to win its next game on Monday against Japan to be in contention to make the finals.
