Ipoh City Council secretary En Munir Ishak went on a walkabout earlier this evening at the Gunung Cheroh Temple to check on necessary preparations for Thaipusam.

He was greeted by the Hindu Devasthana Paripalana Sabah temple committee members and their team.

The visit was to ensure food safety, their handling, hygiene traffic movement and proper stall set-up.

Some 200 stalls under the temple committee and 66 tents by private operators have been put up this year.

However, 60 stalls were found not up to the required standards.

Among the shortcomings were cleanliness, hygiene, not wearing aprons, caps, shoes, typhoid shots, providing for rubbish bins etc.

They were given verbal warnings to improve on their operations. The council enforcement team will follow up again to ensure the required measures are adhered to.

In the meantime, the Ipoh City Council wishes everyone a Happy Thaipusam 2024.
