Ipoh City Council is casting its net wider to include school pupils for the doughnut economy, a framework that prioritizes balanced development within environmental limitations, the first in Southeast Asia.
It will be introduced to all primary schools in the city by the end of the year.
Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud said:” we want to create awareness among the children on sustainable economic models.
“We have taken this approach as they are going to inherit the planet,” he told reporters after launching the city level World Global Doughnut Economics Day at Sekolah Kebangsaan Marian Convent here today. (Nov 13)
He stressed the concept had to start from young to educate them to understand the model.
According to Rumaizi more roadshows will be organised for the public later.
A total of 20 pupils from SK Marian Convent, SJK (C) Ave Maria, SJK (T) Simee, SK Seri Ampang and SK Polis Hutan attended the event.
