Some 800 residents turned up on the eve of the 66th National Day celebrations in Ipoh with their participation in the Kayuhan Merdeka at Perkarangan Persiaran Bandaraya here.
The cyclists gathered at the revenue as early as 7.40pm to make the event a success.
The participants were flagged off by State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Chong who represented Perak Menteri Besar for the Open category (22.9km) and VIP category (5 km).
Also present were Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud and councillors.
It is to kick off and prelude to the Merdeka celebrations the following day.
The event is organised annually by the state government together with the council to celebrate Merdeka Day.
It is aimed at bringing together people from all walks of life and diverse racial and cultural backgrounds.
By taking part in such event will help and encourage residents to be fit, active and healthy.
