Urban farming is the way forward to overcome food shortage in the country.

Ipoh Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin highlighted that the urban farming project under the Ipoh City Council at the foothills of Gunung Matsoorat is one such example.

The project undertakes hydroponic and fertigated farming in line with the  national food security and quality.
“Gunung Matsoorat an eco-tourism spot that puts forth the benefits of urban farming.

“Since the pandemic has halted import and export activities of raw ingredients which subsequently caused food shortages, this project will help overcome food shortages,” said Rumaizi adding that it will also provide employment and income for many.

He also added that some 650 pots of chilli are planted within 7,000 sq ft of the foothill, with construction costing RM60,000 for the farming facilities.
