The newly appointed Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, YB M Kula Segaran issued his first press statement on being appointed to the post. He is also the Member of Parliament for Ipoh Barat.

“I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for the privilege of serving as the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, with a specific focus on Law and Institutional Reform.

“This opportunity is both humbling and an honour, aligning seamlessly with my unwavering passion for justice, fairness, and legal reform — a commitment that has been nurtured throughout my professional journey as a lawyer and my advocacy within DAP.

My enthusiasm for this new responsibility is heightened by the prospect of collaborating with Minister YB Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, a fellow champion for legal reform.

“Together, we aim to fulfil the Madani Government’s promise of comprehensive reforms, striving to make a lasting impact. Recent changes in our Government structure, such as the transition of MP R. Ramanan and YB Noraini Ahmad to new roles, underscore the dynamic nature of our administration.

“Unlike a rigid hierarchical structure, our focus remains on deploying expertise where it can be most beneficial. This approach, endorsed by the Prime Minister, reflects a commitment to harnessing diverse skills and experiences to drive national reforms and progress.

“This strategy of utilising skills where they are most needed is not unique to Malaysia. The United Kingdom, under the leadership of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, witnessed a notable cabinet reshuffle, bringing back former Prime Minister David Cameron as the Foreign Minister. This move exemplifies the global importance of leveraging expertise and experience for maximum impact.

“As a devoted party member, my commitment extends to serving wherever my skills and expertise are needed, acknowledging that positions are not permanent. My primary focus is on serving all communities, upholding multiracial principles, and ensuring that meritocracy remains a fundamental aspect of our governance framework.

“I am equally devoted to serving the Indian Tamil community, using my position to advocate for their rights and needs. I will work tirelessly to ensure that their voices are heard and that they are adequately represented in our Government’s policies and initiatives.

“I extend my deep gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for this opportunity to serve. I am eager to contribute to the progress of our nation while actively working towards the betterment of the Indian Tamil community.
